With content creation projected to move towards video across all types of platforms, it’s now becoming even more important to become capable in video content production.

For landing pages, videos have been known to convert better than blog text. So why aren’t more businesses abandoning their blogs and text-based content in favor of a video marketing strategy? Simple, there are huge barriers to entry. And I mean huge!

Video has a great reputation in terms of return on investment and effectiveness. But a lot of small businesses are saying that it’s the hardest to do. I get it. You think that it’s time consuming and more expensive to create than text-based content. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be. You can still make quality videos on a bootstrapped budget. No, no, no, you can’t make quality videos without spending loads of cash. Not necessarily true. There is always a way to make amazing video content without draining your bank account.

True story, when I first started making YouTube videos, we used my phone for a camera, a chair and a stack of books to hold up the camera because we didn’t have a tripod at the time, and my husband stood behind the camera holding a lamp with no lamp shade for lighting. So if you want to venture back to the early days of my YouTube channel, you can see what that looked like. We’ve come a long way.

In this video, we’re talking about creating videos with a tight budget. Here are different tips and tricks that will help you to create a professional quality looking video that gets you conversions and sales. If you want to learn more about crafting the best YouTube videos, you can also check out my YouTube video checklist. This can give you more information on what it takes to make it big in the industry with videos on YouTube. Now here are your tips.

Number one, bring it home with a great script. To develop a great video at a low cost, save money by writing your own script. Create a script that resonates with your existing assets. Things that you can use. Sets or environments that don’t need large investments. Think of your venue, materials, props, sounds, and lights when you create content right out of the gate. So for example, we knew that it was cheap to use my phone and a lamp with no lamp shade in my basement. Focus your energy on delivering great value in terms of the content. You can make use of an intriguing line to pull your audience in. Social proofing to support whatever you mention in the form of testimonials and showing the product benefits that are within that content piece.

Number two, determine your direction and video style. Determine the type of video and content that matters to you and your audience. The strategy here is to understand your market and know what they want to watch. You can do this by doing some basic competitive research before doing anything else. Locate a few of your video competitor’s pages and watch how they do it. You can also take inspiration from directors with the films they make. Often they don’t typically spend so much in production value, but charismatically deliver using amazing videos. The intent is to make the videos as aesthetically pleasing as those of your competition or even better. Often you would find yourself sharing the same type of insights, but those who have better aesthetics stand to win the day. And don’t get caught up with the editing softwares. You can use iMovie for free or Filmora for about 50 bucks I think for the software. Easy to use and tons of aesthetic features that make you look like a pro.

Number three, produce it economically. You do not need to bankrupt yourself for one piece of content. Don’t waste all your money on one thing that you aren’t even sure will succeed. To do this, test the waters first. You can tap into freelance services like Upwork or Fiverr depending on your needs. They easily and cheaply churn out animated style short videos, short clips, and quality produced advertisements without the large costs. Just a few dollars can make a difference in your business.

Creating video content doesn’t have to be expensive and time consuming. As other content mediums like blogging become more saturated and crowded, video marketing provides an avenue for you to reach your customers.

Costly doesn’t always mean quality. And you definitely create videos on a low budget.
